History of GC University Lahore The College was established on 1st January 1864 and temporarily housed in the Zilla School in a portion of Dhyan Singh's Haveli. In April 1871 the college moved to a large bungalow near Anarkali. In 1873 its location was changed to another house called Rahim Khan's Kothi. It was in 1876 that the college moved into the present building. The construction had started almost mid 1872 and was completed in 1877. Situated in the heart of the city the site is surrounded by main business and administrative areas, schools, colleges and Punjab University old Campus. The academic Campus of any educational institution plays an important part in the nurturing of its students. It imparts a sense of ownership and prode to them. Built during the colonial era, the architectural style, known to be the Celestial Gothic, best suited the academic building. Bangladesh Crisis and the Great Powers Soviets Union’s Action After the military crackdown in East Pakistan, the Government of Pakistan was under international pressure to stop the massacre and to respond to the legitimate demands of the Bengalis. A message was sent to President Yahya Khan on 2 April 1971 by the Soviet Union, President Podgorny warned him that the continuation of repressive measures and blood shedding in East Pakistan would undoubtedly make the solution of the problem more difficult and would do great harm to the vital interest of the entire people of Pakistan.
